Canterbury Leather & Sandal

After nearly 22yrs of Not having Birks I felt the need to go get some!! And I used this cool leather gift certificate to purchase them! They have two locations and I did call in advance to see if they had the styles I was interested in but they don't and they don't do special orders. Tons and tons of goods packed into a decent space. By the rotary in Orleans. Two staff. Mostly it's just help yourself which is fine. When you figure out what you want they get it if they have it. Super excited to wear these babies in!!!

So here's the deal. They definitely have a wide array of nice high quality products. There's also no doubt about it that the prices are comparatively high and there's almost no effort to be competitive or offer deals of any kind. The real issue here is with the assumed owner. My wife and I had an experience whereby after the holidays we simply wanted to return or exchange an item in a valid manner as you would in any other store ever. The staff member who helped us was downright aggressive defensive and hostile towards us. Sure we don't necessarily dress or fit the role of someone upper middle class spending $250 on a pair of leather footwear, but that doesn't give you any right as a customer service representative of a store to treat us any differently than someone who does. She acted almost as if we were trying to steal from her even though we brought the receipt and card used to purchase the item. She said there was an absolutely all sales final policy which is completely absurd especially around the holiday season. Very very poor service experience with blatant disregard for customer satisfaction.

Closed Mondays in March - how about update your site so people don’t make the trip for no reason.

Went in intending to buy a pair or two of high quality sandals for my birthday, maybe in the $100-200 range. Clerk followed me the entire time, staring and hovering like she’s so proud for deterring a potential shoplifter. So I find a good pair of Birks and I get up to look for a second pair. “Oh, you’re all set?” she says, finally finishing her charade of pretending to dust a foot and a half away from me. “No,” I say. “Oh, well then I’ll just put these away for you.” Uh... alright, guess I’m buying nothing, then. So heads up to anyone else going there, be sure to wear your Sunday best and pearls, I guess. 🙄

Wonderful place for good quality leather and jewelry for the kids. Very friendly staff. I did come in the offseason twice with my nana each time we both got what we wanted
